The players are compiled into an actor file with a .dcx file extension. With some trial and error, I was able to replace Ghost and Niobe with several other actors provided in the game. Warning - If you do not know what a file or folder is, then you should not be reading this. The directions involved to make the change will require some intermediate computer skills. This is by no means the definitive guide to changing the player character, it is merely one method that works. So lets see what is required to replace Niobe with Trinity - ooooh. Yeah, the first time I played the game as Trinity I was trip'n. Then I replaced Ghost with Morpheus and was take'n names with authority. There are several actors that can be used, basically from my experimenting, it seems any character that fights back when attacked in the game can be used as the main character. I am not responsible for any damages that may be caused by following this guide. Attempt to make character replacements at your own risk. ################################ The Characters ################################ The following is a list of some of the actors that can replace Ghost or Niobe Character Actor file Trinity Trinity_zen.dcx Morpheus Morpheus_coat.dcx Neo Neo.dcx Seraph Seraph.dcx Ballard Ballard.dcx Bane Bane.dcx Axel Axel.dcx Agent Smith AgentSmith.dcx Agent Jackson AgentJackson.dcx Agent Johnson AgentJohnson.dcx Agent Thompson AgentThompson.dcx Sparks Sparks03.dcx & Sparks.dcx Twin1 Twin01.dcx Twin2 Twin02.dcx Merovingian Merovingian.dcx Abel Abel.dcx Vlad Vlad.dcx Cain Cain.dcx Cujo Cujo.dcx Wurm Wurm.dcx Janitor Janitor.dcx Swat Swat.dcx Swat Sniper Swat_Sniper.dcx Swat Thermal swat_thermal.dcx Swat Commander Swat_Commander.dcx Swat Sewer Swat_sewer.dcx Swat Armored Swat_Armored.dcx Swat Pilot Swat_Pilot.dcx Security Guard Security_Guard.dcx Sewing woman Sewing_woman.dcx Shopkeeper Shopkeeper.dcx Test test.dcx Prisoner prisoner_1.dcx Plant Welder PPlant_welder.dcx Plant Repairman PPlant_repairman.dcx Plant Scientist PPlant_scientist.dcx Postal Worker postal_worker.dcx Postal Sorter postal_sorter.dcx Postal Operator Postal_Operator.dcx Doberman Doberman_1.dcx Airport Mechanic aport_mechanic.dcx Bloodsucker bloodsucker_1.dcx Bloodsucker Female Bloodsucker_fem.dcx Captain Ice Captain_Ice.dcx Captain Soren Captain_Soren.dcx & sorentest.dcx & sorrentest.dcx Binary Binary.dcx Cop COP.dcx & Cop_Heavy.dcx Keymaker Keymaker.dcx Civilian Female1 Civ_Female01.dcx Civilian Female2 Civ_Female02.dcx Civilian Male1 Civ_Male01.dcx Civilian Male2 Civ_Male02.dcx Corrupt Corrupt.dcx Homeless Homeless.dcx Malachi Malachi.dcx Vector Vector.dcx Experimenting with the actor files, there may be others that will work. But I think I tested all of the actors that were potentially characters in game. Although it is noted above that some of the actor files crashed the game when the game loaded, that may be due to video driver conflicts or corrupt files. You may have better luck, they may work for you. I've tested Trinity and Morpheus extensively on most of the levels and they work well throughout the game with a few visual defects noted below. ######################### Modifying The Player Characters ###################### Make a backup of any file that you modify!!! If you do not know how, then you must close this document now! Take the blue pill! For those who know what copy and paste commands are then please continue. The red pill is your choice. The files we need to copy and replace are located in the directory that you installed the game. The default location of the files is: This path may be different on you pc depending where you installed your game. C:\Program Files\Infogrames\Enter The Matrix\actors\ Replace Ghost: COPY the following files into a new temp directory (so we can restore later) Ghost_Costume01.dcx Ghost_Costume02.dcx Ghost_Costume03.dcx Ghost_Costume04.dcx Ghost_Costume04b.dcx Ghost_Costume05.dcx Ghost_gi.dcx Ghost_phasing.dcx COPY the actor file of the character you wish to replace Ghost with (See Characters list above) and PASTE the file 8 times into new temp folder RENAME each actor file like the 8 Ghost actor files above. Play Game! ######################## Restoring Default Characters ########################## Restoring to the original characters can only be done if you followed the first step by backing up the files. Sentinels must have got to you before you could have completed that step, and now you will have to reinstall the game to restore the original actor files. Restoring Ghost: COPY the orgininal Ghost actor files that you copied into a temp folder. PASTE the files back to the 'actors' folder in the game's directory. Replacing existing files. Ghost_Costume01.dcx Ghost_Costume02.dcx Ghost_Costume03.dcx Ghost_Costume04.dcx Ghost_Costume04b.dcx Ghost_Costume05.dcx Ghost_gi.dcx Ghost_phasing.dcx Restoring Niobe: COPY the orgininal Niobe actor files that you copied into a temp folder. PASTE the files back to the 'actors' folder in the game's directory. Replacing existing files. Niobe_Costume01.dcx Niobe_Costume02.dcx Niobe_Costume03.dcx Niobe_Costume04.dcx Niobe_Costume04b.dcx Niobe_Costume05.dcx Niobe_Costume06.dcx Niobe_Costume_x.dcx Niobe_1_phase.dcx ################################### Glitches ################################### Due to the different size and shape of some of the actors that replace the main actors, some visual defects occur. The cell phones, rotary phones, and weapons do not get placed in actor's hands correctly during cutscenes. I also notice that playing as Morpheus for example, when in the driving levels, his head sticks out through the roof of the car. :) This can be overlooked, since the fun is had in the combat during the game! So take the red pill, enter the matrix and see how far the rabbit hole goes! ############################### Video Card Issues ############################## Radeon 8500LE Video Card: Enabling the "Shadow" option from MatrixOptions.exe setup screen caused the game to crash to the desktop only when a few of the actors were used. If you are having troubles, try disabling the "Shadow" option before playing the game. #################################### Credits ################################### Shiny Entertainment for making an entertaining game based on the Matrix universe GameFAQs.com for giving this FAQ a home ############################# Copyright Information ############################ To use this FAQ in total or in part, do so freely but inform the author by writing nhlflash@hotmail.com Comments, Recommendations, Concerns, complaints should be emailed to nhlflash@hotmail.com Enter The Matrix is Copyrighted to Atari Studios/Shiny Entertainment All rights Reserved.
